Having a baby really soon and looking for a safe durable car seat and stroller.. Also what is a good crib? thanks!
Well, the Britax and Radian lines are probably the best and most durable car seats.
As far as strollers go, it depends on the use. If you want to use it from newborn up then you want it to lay completely flat. The Chicco brand strollers are really good for that, so are the Graco Quatro Plus, but if you can find one of the ones where the handle of the stroller turns around so they’re laying flat and facing you then that is best for the babies. If not, then make sure you stop often to talk to and engage your baby face to face. 🙂
Strollers should not be used with car seats. Car seats are for traveling in the car. Because of the angle and the way they are, oxygen levels can become an issue for as many as 20% of babies (especially newborns and preemies.) So don’t limit yourself to a stroller and car seat combo.
Add: For the record, not that I don’t like Graco, I just don’t consider it the most durable. They’re safe though. Right now my son uses a Graco Snugride 35, and I plan on using a My-Ride when he grows out of it. But Britax has steel reinforcement and Radian is made out of steel (making it last 8 years instead of the 6 years that most plastic car seats have.) The safest car seat is one you put in properly, and one that is rear-facing to at least 2 years and preferably 4 years. So the higher rear-facing weights are important. The Graco My-Ride rear faces to 40 then forward to 65, the Britax lines now rear-face to 40 and forward to 70, and the Radian rear-faces to 45 and forward to 80. I’d rather someone buy one of these over an infant carrier.
But if I was to recommend a line, Britax or Radian Sunshine Kids would be the ones I’d recommend for durability.
Good Stroller Brands
we have always been a fan of graco for car seats and strollers! they are amazing and even got our twins at 2 months old through an icy road car accident safely. so we have never bought a different brand! for cribs we have gotten all of ours at jcpenny. we always go with the 4 in 1 cribs so we won’t have to spend more later when they grow out of the crib itself. i think ours goes all the way into a full size bed, but buy the full size bed attachment with the crib if you would want to take it that far. and if you are worried about them ruining or coloring it, wooden beds can always be sanded and re-painted to look like new 🙂
If you take a minute to check out these links, you’ll see it’s safest to keep children rear facing as long as possible. The AAP recommends a minimum of 2 years before turning a child forward facing, but preferably until the seat’s weight limit will allow.
You can get infant carriers like the Graco Snugride 35 that will allow a child to rear face until 35 pounds. This is for rear facing use only. http://www.gracobaby.com/Search%20Result…
Convertibles can have limits of 40 pounds rear facing and 65 pounds forward facing, some having even higher limits. Many convertibles are suitable for use from 5 pounds up.
The Sunshine Kids Radian XTSL is an amazing convertible- rear facing to 45 pounds, forward to 80 pounds and it’s the slimmest car seat available- you can fit 3 of these in a back seat. It’s a bit pricey at $300
The Graco My Ride 65 offers rear facing to 40, forward to 65. It has dual cupholders and is very comfortable, but they are a bit bulky. They’re priced more reasonably at about $150
The Cosco Scenera allows rear facing to 35, but forward only to 40 which is why it is only $60
When it comes to baby car seats, probably Britax but there are other good ones that are bit more affordable. Here are some of the best rated…

As for strollers, Britax also has good ones but there are less expensive brands.
