I’ve had acne since 6th or 7th grade. I’m now 20 years old and a sophomore in college. I had hoped that my acne would fade after I passed through puberty like it did for the vast majority of my friends, but it hasn’t. It wasn’t that big of a deal in middle and high school because a lot of my…
Dude its time for accutane. The side effects aren’t much worse than Doxy or Minocycline IMO, cept you only have to be on accutane for 5-6 months. Go for it (you wont regret it). Antibiotics only ever work for acne if you take them twice a day because the acne bacteria will grow immune to them and rebound if they’re not in your system 24/7. I’ve never used cephlaxen for acne nor have i heard it prescribed for it but I’d only give an antibiotic about 1.5 months to start working at the most…the paperwork for accutane takes forever so the sooner you see a doctor about getting it the better. Make an apt about that tomorrow.
FYI your doctor doesn’t know her stuff when it comes to acne, does she? Benzoyl peroxide is actually the ONLY topical disinfectant that the acne bacteria cannot grow immune to so DEFINITELY use it for now. Another thing is, tea tree oil soaps and products are not usually made with a strong enough concentration of TTO to kill the acne bacteria so they can actually make your acne worse! Stay away from TTO products unless you’re using straight up TTO (pure 100% from trader joes or somewhere trust worthy).
*my acne was moderate (pustule type acne) then slowly became even more and cystic after I stopped taking minocycline (big surprise, right?). In my head it was real severe. I was only on low dose accutane for three months the first time and I got clear within the first month on just 10mgs a day (that is like the lowest dose ever). If you’re worried about an IB just talk with the prescribing doctor about it, cause mine started me on only 10 mgs to avoid a big IB and it basically worked. She also gave me a prescription for oral clindamycin just in case i got cystic acne while I was on it cause I’m prone to scarring and I basically demanded it lol. Accutane gave me depression really really bad so I stopped three months in and stayed clear for like 6 months before it came back worse then ever when I quit smoking and stopped taking spiro (an androgen blocker). Anyways now I’m on 20mgs and alls I get are flu like symptoms from it sometimes–but still its not something I’d wanna stay on indefinitely. Hopefully I can move up a dose next month cause otherwise i’ll have to stay on it 7 months this time (my dr wants to make sure it doesn’t come back this time). Don’t worry, if you’re acne is not severe you don’t need to be on a high dose and the lower your dose the less side effects you usually get.
If your acne is only moderate, you don’t need Accutane.
Accutane is a very powerful medication that should only be prescribed after you’ve tried everything else without success. And it should only be prescribed to someone who has SEVERE cystic acne, not moderate pimples.
I was born with acne, literally. By my tween years, it had morphed into the severe, disfiguring cystic variety. My first Accutane treatment was in 1995-6, lasted 7 months on about 80 mg. Kept me clear for over 10 years, then it started coming back. By my late 20’s-early 30’s, I was back to getting severe monthly breakouts & decided I’d had enough. Currently 3 months into my 2nd treatment at 40 mg. It’s working really well. But like I said….my case was severe, yours is not. People who take Accutane who don’t have severe acne to begin with don’t usually get the greatest results with it.

Hi, I am a dermatologist by profession and according to me acne is normal for teens as they go through various hormonal changes in their bodies. If we keep on trying to heal pimples before they come then in 90% of the cases they won’t come out but in 10% of the cases they will reside inside the skin and harm the skin by massive redness, itching and sometimes rashes.

I am a dermatologist by profession and within a careeer of 10 years I have seen lots of acnee problems. According to me Red and white pimpless are the worst and painful. Acneprone skin is very sensitive, even if you touch it once the redness will increase with itching. According to me there is no magical way to heal your pimmples over night as this is the puffed part of your skin due to the bacteria.
In simple words try to improve your diet and have lots of water that helps in healingg process. Un-necessary oily food should be avoided to get a healthy spotless skin.
