Christians: Where do you draw the line between being judgmental and “speaking the truth”?

Some might say that telling someone that they are going to hell for a certain belief is being judgmental, others might say that “it’s in the Bible” and therefore it is simply speaking the truth.

Where do you draw the line?

Condemning someone is being Judgmental

Telling someone God’s truth (even if it’s hard) is not.

Personally I would never just tell someone they are going to hell. The point in “speaking the truth” is to spread the Gospel, the good news, that no matter who they are or what they’ve done they can find salvation in Jesus and don’t have to go to hell. I think there’s also a difference in whether you’re referring to judging someone’s beliefs or their actions. Especially if we’re talking about a person’s actions, I think it is very easy to be judgmental and we need to be careful there. Like Jesus said, remove the plank from your own eye before you point it out in someone else.

We will judge the world later. But Jesus wants us to tell the world about him. If they do not have him, they will parish! As far as a sinner that may go to church, it is somewhat the same. But if they claim Christ, give them the Scripture and do it with love! That love must come from the Holy Spirit! If you let Him lead you, there shall be victory in time for that person! I was told by a lady when I called to donate to a TV evangelism, that my wife was not saved and to ask for forgiveness for marrying her. I did not know she was not until after we were married! But the lady, in the Spirit, knew! Never be afraid to lead a person away from mortal sin! We have the world and even many governments, including the U.S. that claim gay lifestyle is ok, male or female. The problem is that more and more are getting into it by support of the Liberal ideas. After all, about a third of the political support money comes from these alternate lifestyle organizations! When Bush Sr lost the election he made a very profound and simple statement. He said they will vote for character! He meant they should vote for it! We elected oral Clinton, if we remember? A Liberal judge declared his act was not sex but oral. A great message for our daughters! Do Liberals want our daughters to do these things? Sure, because they support these directly of indirectly. Judge by your vote as this is, at present, a free nation. Earl

The question of being judgmental arises from the misinterpretation of Matthew 7:1 Read the whole passage carefully, and you’ll find that judging is encouraged, but not with a double standard. God’s standard will prevail.

But speaking the truth must always be done with love.

Personally to me a christian is one who believes in the soundness of christ’s teachings and who shares the love amongst mankind. I have doubts regarding those who paint themselves above others because they set foot in a building once a week. It’s not necessarily bad to attend church but being christian is an every day thing not just once a week and the rest of the time you get a free pass to act like a jerk. It doesn’t work that way. At least not from my vantage point.

Well even though it may be the truth some may take it offensively. So if you are going to tell someone that they are wrong try to do it in the nicest way possible. Don’t say youre going to hell for doing that. Say something like there are consequences for that or that may not be the right thing to do.

Everything is judgmental. From the first moment I look at you- I judge you. I am not going to hide that fact and yes it is VERY christian of me.

The bible speaks of not being a hypocrite. Not of never judging people. If your having an affair and I am too, and I am criticizing ou for that. That is not committing righteous judgment.

There is no hellfire (Jeremiah 7:31) And they have built the high places of To′pheth, which is in the valley of the son of Hin′nom, in order to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire, a thing that I had not commanded and that had not come up into my heart.’

A loving God would never do such a thing, 1 John 4:8
Romans 2:1 (2 Timothy 4:1) I solemnly charge you before God and Christ Jesus, who is destined to judge the living and the dead, and by his manifestation and his kingdom,

Only Jesus has the position of Judge none of us should even attempt to take that postition of disrespect to him.People change and only he can read the heart we can’t.We can tell them that something is wrong and that we don’t approve of it but only Jesus can judge them.
Read chapter 21 of 2 Kings .The story of Manasseh,,he started at the age of 12 and was the most sinful person that had ever lived but God forgave him when he asked for it .

When you the Lord tells to tell someone that they are going to hell then
you do what the Lord leads you to do and that is all you can do.

We are here to be a light to the lost.

Always do what the Lord wants you to do.

Here what it is the Bible we are to tell the lost to Repent for the kingdom
is at hand

I did not see any lines to draw in the bible

Jon 3:9 Who can tell [if] God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?
Mat 3:2 And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Mat 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Hello sis.

The thing is, only GOD chooses who goes to Heaven and who goes to Hell. We see, by reading His word, that certain actions or deeds WILL send us to either place, but in the end, God is the ultimate judge. To tell someone “You are going to hell for doing “this””, is a huge mistake, for only God knows the future.

It’s always best to lead by example instead of words.

Peace be with you 🙂

Myself? I don’t condemn anyone to Hell. That’s God’s place and not mine. I’m certainly not perfect, and if I condemn anyone I’d be a major hypocrit.

I can tell them what I believe to be right and wrong, but I will not push it, and it is definitely no right of mine to judge others. There are many Christians, I’m sure, who do want to wrap everyone who isn’t like themselves in chains and send them to Hell, but that is not how I am.
