Forgot Administrator password on windows Xp?

A client came to me with a laptop with windows xp installed. It had only one account which was the only administrator account and she had forgotten the password. Now how can i reset it bearing in mind that i am unable to loin to any account even the limited accounts?

If you have not yet reformatted the ladies computer which I hope, you can reset the password with free program. You can download it and burn in a CD. There is no need to install this software. Here is the link:…

Choose Ophcrack XP LiveCD.

You have to burn the software in CD in another computer. Change the boot sequence of the client’s computer making CDDVDROM as a 1st boot.

Insert the burned CD and follow the steps. There is no need to reformat the computer.

You can reset the password by going to Safe Mode, and go to the Run dialog and type:
control userpasswords2
and then reset the Administrator password there.

Or alternatively, you can recover it by using a Linux bootable CD/utility called Ophcrack.
Make a CD of it when you download the ISO file from the website, and then pop the CD in when the computer starts, and it will boot the program in. Follow the instructions, if any, then it will start the recovering process. Once that’s done, just place the password in a safe place, and then reboot the computer, and take the CD out. Windows will boot as always, and then enter the password.

Don’t listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they’re talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. The only way to reset your windows password 100% safe is to use a software called Reset Password Pro.

The software allows you to create a boot-disk, that can be made on a CD/DVD or USB stick. The boot-disk can then be inserted into any locked machine, and it’s a simple case of pressing reset. Here is their official site:

Windows Password Resetter :
