How do you know if you are really saved by Jesus Christ? I accepted Jesus before but my life is not showing it

I was saved by Christ on 11-17-2003. Since then I have gone thru times where I seem to be living live to worship God and then other times, especially lately, I have been living solely for myself. I realize this is not the best place to discuss this . I am just hoping for some opinions on this matter because lately…

Not to sound cliche’ but the very fact you are concerned about this is proof of the work of the Holy Spirit in your life!
We are saved not by “feel” but by the promise in God’s word.
If you accepted Jesus as it says in Romans 10, verses 9-10, you are saved!
Each of us still has choices to make.
I know some people have a dramatic born-again experience, but others have to do a lot of living while God is perfecting them.
Just keep praying to Jesus that your desire is to live for and serve Him.
Perhaps He wants you to work for Him right where you are now.
I’ve known Jesus for many years, and we all have times when we are on fire for Him, and times we have to deal with everyday life. Not many are called into the life of a monk or lonely prophet.
As long as you love Jesus, continue asking Him to draw you nearer to Himself. He’s big and strong enough to handle our selfishness or any doubts we may have.
I’m glad you had enough courage to ask! God Bless…
I’ll pray for you

Dear matt r.,

First let me encourage you by saying that your concern over this matter is a good thing. It shows that there is a desire for God and that is not something that man produces on his own, but is a drawing of the Holy Spirit.

Remember when you accepted Christ that you realized that you were caught in a Spiritual battle over who controls your life. The Holy Spirit. Or the World, Flesh, and the Devil. i think often we can get caught up into whether we are saved or not- instead of just making sure.

Right now bro, i would say the thing is to repent and confess your need for the Lord. In Revelation to the church that lost their first love (sounds like your situation) Jesus said for them to repent and to repeat their first works. Get back to the basics when you first got saved in 11/03. What were the things you were doing then to help you grow spiritually and to keep your focus on God. (i think a good Bible teaching church, bible study, and building some good spiritual friends will help you).

The good news is that Jesus doesn’t abandon us. Please do let me know if i can ever be a resource for you (as a friend to pray for you, to answer questions about spiritual things, even to suggest books that might help you grow in your walk). Don’t worry about whether you’re saved or not- be sure. You have to want to walk with Christ and to realize the emptiness of not walking with Him as a first step.

Hope that helps, i’ll pray for you. Kindly,

Nickster

If you are truly saved you’ll know from what the scriptures tell you. No one, even Christ, said it was going to be easy. It’s the devil trying to tempt you with the seductions of this world: pride of life, lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes.

Just because you were saved, doesn’t mean you cannot fall from grace. (2Jo 1:8 Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.) You can lose your salvation. The devil already has the sinners. It’s the saved he wants to take down with him.

1Co 15:2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
1Jo 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
Joh 12:25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

Read your Bible

Matt, do you have a good bible teaching church you go to? How about being in a bible study, how about your prayer life? As Christians, our faith should be ever growing and becoming stronger, and this is done in an active way. By going to church and being taught the word, and by personal study of the bible, and of course by prayer to God.

This world can sap us of strength. You must feed yourself the word of God to have the foundation on which to stand. If you are feeling weak in the faith, do all these things, really put some time and effort into them, and you will grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Some times we have our low periods, get back into reading your Bible and renew your faith and rededicate your life. You are going thru one of the trials of life and if you give Satan a inch he will take a mile and do everything to destroy your testimony. Start memorizing scriptures that will help you thru this time. Most important of all don’t forget to pray and surround yourself with other christians…God Bless
Saved Oct. 18, 1980. Know you will get some discouraging answers on this one, but don’t pay any attention to the snide remarks.

I’ve found that the ways to stay closest to Heavenly Father are through Scripture study and prayer. The fact that you are concerned about being selfish and doing what you want rather then what God wants shows that you are trying. Pray for the stregnth when the going gets tough to do what is right and I know God will help you!
God bless,
Sarah

Most of us go through this, after we accept Jesus. a lot of times we don’t read God’s word as we should and maybe a little slack in our prayers, and get a Little spiritual weak, and Satan will try his best to get you down, he’ll try to convince you that you’re not saved, he don’t want you to be a witness of your salvation, I had to the place, where I got saved and told the devil, you are a liar, here is where I accepted Jesus as my Lord, now leave me alone, and he went….every thing is great now. Sometime you have to just run him off.

Do you believe you could live like God doesn’t exist and that he didn’t call you and give you the gift of faith? I’m not saying that you’re not in danger, in fact, we are commanded to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling…but if you care about the sin in your life that’s evidence of the Holy … see … he’s the Holy Spirit (and he wants you to be holy too); caring about the sin in your life is evidence of his calling. We press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Hey been there…the road has hills and valleys…right now you are in a valley…keep pressing on! If you feel the need rededicate your life to Christ. I’ve said the sinners prayer a dozen or so times. It only takes once but sometimes we need to feel we can start over. The very best advice I can give you is not to concentrate on your sin but on your spirit. The Bible says we have two sides working for dominance in our body all the time…the flesh and the spirit. Which ever side you feed is the side that is going to rule. So feed your spirit! Pray, worship, study, return to the joys of salvation! I’ll keep you in my prayers! E-mail me if you need more hellp

Hey man!
I’ve been there! When i first believed i was like in 5th grade but i didn’t really act like it til after i went to a youth camp my 7th grade yr! What i say is just keep praying and find a friend thats a believer and become accountability partners. Meaning that you randomly give them an update on ur life and what you thought of a church lesson or share your favorite Bible verse with them!
Fun stuff like that! and i recommend a partner of the same sex!
